I’m going to look at the $1000 P
ac
kard tomorrow. Or to be more accurate I am going to look at a frame and pile of body panels
that can be assembled into something Packard
-shaped,
as the car was disassembled
t
hree years ago.
This is probably too big a project to build a hot rod out of , as it will need literally everything. But I have been pondering a long-term project car, and this would be a hell of an interesting starting point...

“ But I have been pondering a long-term project car”
May your project car last 1000 years

That’s an interesting but dangerous start to a project.
I’d say go for it if you’re building a rat-rod but warn you against it for anything more put together than that.

Isn't everything you own always a long-term project?

Does it include the trailer for the kilodollar?

I wonder if there any more modern body on frame cars that share the wheelbase that could be used as a chassis donor?

Yes, but this would probably be a few years before i could even test drive it.

My aim is just above rat rod, but still pretty rough & ready.

Wheelbase would be less of an issue than frame width. I want enough of a vintage look that a frame donor is unlikely. I have been thinling about a medium duty truck diesel drivetrain and front straight axle....

This really does seem like the best deal I’ve seen for a vehicle in ages. It would definitely be a massive undertaking, but it’s such a cool, unique car that if you’re up to the challenge that it would be well worth it.

I have seen a couple of those oldies draped over 20th century Hilux and Ford Courier 2WD chassis...and there was one bloke who I met that was seriously considering a reproduction Series 1 or 2 Land Rover frame for his project.

Without knowing any details measurements, I was thinking that the only way this makes sense is to drop the body panels on the truck frame of your choice at this points.

This might be the Oppo quote of the decade .

Good luck, my neighbor has a rat rod built off a few old rusty shells with a 500ci caddy powering it. It's pretty cool.
